In this posting, I want to share some wisdom from Coach Tony Dungy. In his book “Uncommon“, Tony Dungy shares his perspective on setbacks in sports and how it can be transferred into everyday life. “The beauty of what I’ve learned in sports is that failure happens – regularly, and that failure is a constant in the human experience”, writes Dungy.
How does failure help us in sports and in life?…”failure brings the need for self-examination and growth”, continues Coach Dungy. Setbacks/Hardships/etc, go along with success. Accept that fact sooner and we’ve grown already. How we decide to mentally and emotionally handle our setbacks makes all the difference. “No matter the sport, psychological collapse equals loss…the opponent has the advantage”, writes Dungy.
“Don’t fear it”, says Dungy, “it’s how you handle it”, because “character is a blend of inner courage, wisdom… a sense of duty to yourself, to others, and to something greater than you!”
